Chris Borch ('78) |
The Blue Shoes Track Scholarship was established in 2005 through a gift from Andrea and Chris Borch (’78).
In announcing the gift, Mr. Borch explained: “Because of the track scholarship and other aid I received from Furman, I was able to attend Furman for four years. I have always been grateful for this support, and my wife and I have looked forward to when we could do something for Furman.”
In the months that followed, I came to especially love our morning runs, gliding, in my blue shoes, over the dew-covered Furman golf course.
As the cross-country season progressed I steadily improved, finishing second for Furman in the final meet of the season. In the spring I set a freshman school record in the three-mile (13:51). It was a wonderful year of learning, running … and blue shoes.
Today, I still love those morning runs. I love running with my sons or with a friend, and I particularly enjoy taking our family’s three dogs for a run at a nearby reservoir. Looking back I realize the lessons running teaches - setting a goal, working hard and not giving up - have been invaluable to me in every aspect of my life.” |
